The Communication Dialog

The program will initiate communication when either RETRIEVE SETUP from the Capture Setup screen or Edit Record screen. Or, when selecting BEGIN TRANSFER from the Arrange and Shoot screen.

Communication Setup

Scopemeter Connection

To establish communication the Scopemeter needs to be connected to a free serial port. A free serial port is one that has no other device connected externally or internally to the PC. An example of this kind of conflict is with a serial mouse or internal telephone modem.

Click here to see how to with the PC serial port.

Communication Dialog

There are two options to initiate communication with the instrument: Automatic or Manual. Both options start with the program polling all possible communication ports. This results in the listing seen at right.

AUTOMATIC

First, the program will check to see if communication has been established in the past. If so, it will first check that port. If it fails then the program will test each "available" port.

MANUAL

The available ports will be polled and listed in the window. Use the mouse or keyboard to select the desired port and press SELECT.

Tips

In most cases selecting AUTOMATIC is the easiest way, especially if communication has already been established in the past.
If you are using a USB to serial adapter it might use a communication port number such as 5 or 6. So, don't hesitate to scroll down the list to make sure (if needed).
