Tips for Field Entries

Top  Previous  Next

Following are some tips that you might want to consider when setting up and saving your own setups to a database.

The driving force to the data you enter about a setup is the idea that you might not remember anything about it when you need it! With this in mind always think of the best way to identify the setup and that should be used in the first field. In the default database that is the Test Name field.

When you select your entries another aspect to keep in mind is how it will appear in the Browse screen. The Browse screen grid displays all records in alphabetical order and uses the first three fields. In the default database the first field are Test Name, Test Type and Circ. Desc..

Also, keep names consistent. For example, there are many types of injector signals. Peak and Hold, switch to ground, switch to power, saturated, frequency modulated. The best way to name such a signal is to start out with what they all have in common - Injector, and then follow that will any necessary qualifier.

For example:

Test Name:

Test Type:

Circ. Desc:

Injector

Voltage

Saturated

Test Name:

Test Type:

Circ. Desc:

Injector

Current

Peak and Hold

Test Name:

Test Type:

Circ. Desc:

Injector & Source Voltage

Voltage

Frequency Modulated

The next consideration is how your data input will appear in the printout. The AES Setup Shooter uses specific fields to create the page caption and the sub-caption. Click here to learn more.

Questions to ask yourself when entering data into the database.

What do you need to know to recreate the test?
What test leads were used?
Is there anything special about the setup that is a consideration for testing?
Is the saved setup just a foundation for further adjustment and what are those adjustments?
Are there any safety issues?
What type of analysis is the test used for?
What was the reasoning for the details for the setup?
Are you saving the setup for yourself or others to use and or learn from?

NOTE: All field entries, not including the memo field, are limited to 50 characters. If exceeding 50 characters the text will turn red

Filling in the Memo Field

To get the most from your setup just as much attention should be given to the entry of the memo field. i
